> NEWCASTLE MUST DEAL WITH ITS INTOLERANCE PROBLEM
> Gary Burns, a Sydney equal opportunity campaigner famous for suing
> people in powerful positions, has called on the city of Newcastle
> shake off its intolerance of minorities such as gay men.
> The activist’s call comes as he lodged a anti-discrimination
> complaint against a serial defendant of homosexual vilification:
> John Christopher Sunol, a Newcastle Taxi driver who in 2006 had a
> homosexual vilification complaint substantiated against him.
> “Faggots are all evil people and GOD will burn Sydney to the ground
> because of the evilness of these fags,” said Sunol.
> The Tribunal ruled a number of the statements were sweeping
> generalisations of a highly insulting and offensive nature.
> Part the ADT orders said, 1, Within fourteen days (14) days of the
> date of decision, the Respondent is to remove from every website
> controlled by him any material concerning homosexual
> men, lesbians, homosexuality or the gay lobby;2,The Respondent is to
> refrain from publishing material on any of these topics on any
> website, whether or not controlled by him.
> Mr Sunol has continued to vilify homosexuals on his websites and Mr
> Burns has now lodged two complaints against Mr Sunol alleging
> homosexual vilification over his internet comments.
> On 8 November 2010, Sunol said: “I am not guilty of homophobia or
> hatred to gays as that is all wrong.I speak the truth on these
> events as these people running Mardi-Gras are very very evil and
> drugs, child pedophilia and else are involved in this event.
> “Henry Collier (ADT the former complainant, now deceased) who
> attacked me unjustly wanted such and look what happened to this man,
> he had a heart attack and died. That is Gods answer to such
> evilness,” said Sunol.
> Mr Burns lodged a second complaint on the 12 January 2011.
> “This is dreadful and those who are grooming minors for sex need to
> be locked away a mighty long time. Just as the poofs groom young
> boys for sex in the Gay Mardi Gras in Sydney and they need to be
> shut down as well,” said Sunol.
> Mr Burns will be alleging this offence of Mr Sunol is serious
> homosexual vilification (49ZT A (B)) because it is inciting others
> to threaten physical harm towards the person or group of persons on
> the ground of homosexuality.
> The maximum penalty in the case of an individual is -10 penalty
> units or imprisonment for 6 months or both.
> Gary Burns feared Sunol’s views were part of a wider problem of
> intolerance amongst Novacastrians.
> “What is it about Newcastle?” he asked. “Former Newcastle Knights
> NRL footballers Matthew and Andrew Johns hail from this town.
> “These boofheads felt it was perfectly okay to publicly depict
> homosexual men as faulty and worthless on “The Footy Show”.
> “Mr Sunol is also a Newcastle resident who drives a taxi in the town.
> “Is hate a Newcastle value?”
> “I am not a kiddy fiddler,” continued Mr Burns.
> “Paedophilia is a particularly disgusting crime. It is a loathsome
> exploitation of trust and respect.
> “Mr Sunol’s internet publication constitutes a public act – a key
> requirement for a vilification finding,” he added.
> Mr Burns believes the town of Newcastle and its people have a heavy
> burden on their shoulders to prove that their town is not an
> intolerant and vile place to live if you are a
> minority Australian.
> “The male homosexual community of Newcastle need to be warned that
> the next taxi they hail in the street could be driven by John
> Christopher Sunol and he thinks you are a rapist of male children,”
> Burns concluded.
